Video & editing · DECISION GUIDE

Descript vs VEED: choose a caption workflow

Choose around the edit you do most often: working through spoken words or assembling a video in a browser. The final export matters as much as the editing screen.

Choose by fit, not a score.

Documentation-based editorial guidance. We have not run a hands-on comparison. Price and trial pages rechecked September 19, 2026; individual profile source dates are listed below.

MAKE IT YOUR DECISION

Three questions before you choose

Are you editing speech or arranging a visual story?

Use a representative clip rather than an empty project. Check how easily you can find a sentence, correct a caption, and make the edit your audience needs.

Do you need a video, a subtitle file, or both?

Descript documents SRT and VTT export. For either service, confirm the exact output your publishing platform accepts, along with the plan's watermark and resolution conditions.

What limits apply to your workload?

Descript separates media and AI allowances. VEED's limits depend on the selected plan and features. Estimate from your own clips; we have not measured speed or caption accuracy.

TRY A SMALL TASK

  1. Choose a one-minute clip containing names, a pause, and background sound.
  2. Correct the same passage and inspect caption timing in both tools.
  3. Check how the captions look on a phone, including safe margins.
  4. Export the required format and confirm plan limits before processing a full episode.
